Career Readiness
Career Readiness at PYD is more than just a program, it’s a hands-on journey where youth build real-world skills, confidence, and a clear path toward their future.
Career Readiness is an inclusive career development program for transition-age youth with disabilities that addresses barriers to employment. The program aims to close the economic gap experienced by people with disabilities by preparing young adults to transition successfully to employment, postsecondary education, and independent living after high school. Our training is progressive, increasing in complexity and skill development based on where each participant is in their continuum of development, ensuring individualized growth and meaningful outcomes.
Youth with disabilities participate in training designed to build confidence, career skills, and real-world experience. Throughout the year, students explore job readiness, financial literacy, entrepreneurship, and self-advocacy through a supportive and hands-on curriculum.
Our classes/workshops focus on the essential skills employers look for: communication, time and stress management, problem-solving, professional behavior, interview preparation, and conflict resolution. Students also learn how to advocate for themselves in the workplace and understand their rights to reasonable accommodations.
By the end of training, each student builds a set of practical career tools, including a polished resume, tailored cover letters, and completed sample job applications.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Students put their skills into practice through job shadowing, guest speakers, mock interviews, and internships. They connect with business professionals, gain mentorship, and receive personalized support as they prepare for future employment or postsecondary education.
We have short term and long term career readiness opportunities!
